LIMA: The Ethical Framework for Dog Trainers
As a positive reinforcement dog trainer, I follow an ethical guideline called LIMA, which stands for Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive. LIMA is a philosophy that guides trainers to always use the least intrusive and most humane methods that are likely to be effective for each individual dog. This means prioritizing positive reinforcement and avoiding aversive tools or techniques like prong collars, choke chains, or force.
The LIMA approach respects each dog’s unique needs and focuses on creating a safe and positive environment for learning. Our ultimate goal is to teach skills and change behavior without fear, intimidation, or pain.
