Vaccinations

Policy

At Canine Kindness Co., the health and safety of our clients and their canine companions is our top priority. While vaccinations are not required for private lessons, they are required for all group classes to ensure a safe and healthy training environment for everyone. We strongly recommend that your dog is up-to-date on the following vaccinations:

  • Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella

For group classes, all dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations. We encourage you to discuss your dog’s vaccination schedule with your veterinarian to ensure they receive the appropriate vaccines based on their age, lifestyle, and health status. Your veterinarian can provide personalized advice to help keep your dog healthy and protected.

Maintaining current vaccinations helps create a safe environment for all participants, allowing us to focus on delivering the best possible training experience.

If you have any questions or need further information about our vaccination requirements or recommendations, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to working with you and your canine companion in a safe, supportive setting!

Core Vaccinations

1. Rabies

Rabies is a fatal viral disease that can affect all mammals, including humans. Vaccination is crucial for preventing this deadly disease.

Recommended Schedule: Administered as a single dose at 12-16 weeks of age, with a booster shot one year later. Following boosters are typically given every three years, depending on local regulations.

2. Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis), and Parvovirus (DA2P)

These highly contagious viral infections can cause severe illness or death in dogs. They are commonly grouped together in a combination vaccine.

Recommended Schedule:Initial vaccination series starts at 6-8 weeks of age, followed by boosters every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. An additional booster is recommended one year later, with subsequent boosters every three years.

1. Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough)

Bordetella is a common cause of respiratory illness in dogs. It's particularly recommended for dogs that frequently interact with other dogs.

Recommended Schedule: Administered initially as an intranasal, oral, or injectable vaccine, with a booster every 6-12 months depending on risk factors.

2. Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted to humans and other animals. It is often found in areas with standing water.

Recommended Schedule: Initial vaccination is given as a two-dose series, 2-4 weeks apart, followed by annual boosters.

What is MArker Trainer

Marker Training

Marker training is a dog training technique that uses a specific sound or signal to mark the exact moment a dog performs a desired behavior. This marker, often a click from a clicker or a word like "yes," tells the dog that what it just did is correct and will be followed by a reward.

The process begins by "charging" the marker, which means consistently pairing the marker sound with a treat until the dog understands that the marker predicts a reward. Once the marker is charged, it can be used to precisely capture and communicate the desired behavior, making it clear to the dog what action earned the reward. This clarity helps speed up learning and makes training more efficient and enjoyable for both the dog and the trainer.

Canine Kindness Project

Tout commence par une idée.

The Canine Kindness Project is an initiative by Canine Kindness Co. designed to promote compassionate, force-free training methods and educate dog guardians on the principles of empathy, mindfulness, and loving-kindness. Through this project, we provide opportunities to replace aversive tools like prong collars by participating in Project tRade, a trade-in program for discounts on training services, encouraging a shift toward positive reinforcement.

The Canine Kindness Project also offers educational resources that align with our philosophy, empowering guardians to understand their dogs' behavior and emotional needs, and apply ethical, science-based methods in their everyday interactions. Our mission is to reduce the reliance on fear-based techniques.

Mission

Our mission is to lead by example in advocating for canine well-being through positive, force-free, and fear-free training. We are dedicated to creating a world where every dog is trained with compassion, respect, and understanding.

Our goal is not only to train dogs effectively but also to empower guardians with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to build thriving, lifelong relationships with their dogs.

We believe that every dog deserves an environment free from fear and force, where trust and mutual respect form the foundation of the human-canine bond. Through humane training techniques, education, and community engagement, we strive to ensure that every dog has the opportunity to live a joyful, fulfilling life alongside a confident and informed guardian.
